Sleeping

Tonight I watched my son try to fight his way out of sleeping. It was the first time I got to see him throw a tantrum while doing so. It is an amusing thing to watch. Normally he just cries/whines – an obvious sort of signal that sleeptime has arrived. But to watch him beat on furniture was a bit scary (he is by all accounts very non-physical) then funny. My wife scurried him to bed and he was asleep some 15 minutes later.

The episode got me looking at his photos from a year ago. He has changed so very much and simply just seems to do more, even though my wife argues that he did plenty before.

Part of the reason I started this blog was to remember little “sublime” moments like tonight. Another was to organize my thinking about current events in my family and “external” life. Starting sometime (soon?) some of my musings here will be on religious/spiritual impressions on various talks and scriptures that we will be reading together. Not sure how this will turn out, not because I don’t have the thoughts, but mostly because I need to get better about articulating them. It is a constant struggle to use the right words to describe a feeling or an idea. As a now third year law student, I really appreciate using the least amount of words to do the most amount of damage. This is why I like this format – for the most part I write this as an unfiltered flow from my brain.

I’ll try to add some thoughts tomorrow about the Jazz/Lakers series after I talk to my brother. The Lakers look like the team to beat and the Celtics look like a team to beat. It’s going to be an exciting next few weeks. Also, I’ll watch for Hillary clinton to drop out of the race next week. I shook my head in disgust after reading this bit from the “Gender Issue Lives On as Clinton’s Hopes Dim” story in the Sunday NYT…..

Cynthia Ruccia, 55, a sales director for Mary Kay cosmetics in Columbus, Ohio, is organizing a group, Clinton Supporters Count Too, of mostly women in swing states who plan to campaign against Mr. Obama in November. “We, the most loyal constituency, are being told to sit down, shut up and get to the back of the bus,” she said.

Do these people really have the gall to call themselves Democrats? What is up with the “Back of the Bus” metaphor anyway? Perhaps not surprisingly, Geraldine Ferraro may join their ranks by refusing to vote for Obama. It is twisted to think of this “contingency” as oppressed. Hillary Clinton’s candidacy was a first in many respects and she should be applauded for “raising the level” for all women. Perhaps a woman of my generation may in the near future be able to make a run because of the work that Hillary did this year. But realize that the reason Hillary lost was because she got beat by a better organized and talented candidate. That she was taken so seriously by everyone should be applauded but folks…..she lost fair and square. I’ll post more of my thoughts on this as the week passes by…..

My Current Favorite Pasttime / Obsession.

The Hillary Clinton Deathwatch

Welcome. I have plans for this space this summer. Supposedly I will have time to write a word or two. Perhaps when I do I will feel more inspired to do so than I do now.

My favorite pasttime.
